Cardinals promo baseballers clip Angels’ wings with 16-5 win

Man of the match went to Trevor Campbell for his batting performance.

CARDINALS Baseball Club promo side played a home game on Sunday, 6 October against Super Kings, who attacked Cardinals early.

Super Kings refused to relinquish the lead, recording a 14-4 victory on Sunday at Toti.

The game was decided quickly as Super Kings exerted its will early with 11 runs in the first three innings.

The sequence of events: A groundout by Patrick Marescia, an error, RBI single by Sean King, two-run single by Jeff Mairet, and an RBI double by Keith Singe during the first inning fueled Super Kings' offense early.

Cardinals were hurt by a number of miscues in the field. They committed five errors which led to two unearned runs for Super Kings.

Dion Desaunois got the win for Super Kings. He allowed four runs over seven innings. He struck out five, walked one and surrendered nine hits.

Super Kings' Keith, Jeff, Dion Desaunois and Brad Holloway combined for 10 hits and seven RBIs.

Cardinals just did not feature with bat on the day, however stand batters on the day where Melanie Baker 4 for 2, Trevor Campbell 4 for 2, Keith Dempsey 3 for 2. However this was not enough to overcome the Kings' onslaught. Melanie pitched the whole game and the sad tale is that, as usual, errors cost you the game. Out of the 14 runs scored, only seven were earned.

Man of the match went to Trevor Campbell for his batting performance, mare went to Craig Dempsey for his poor overall performance. Mention must be made of Brian Seach, who took a diving catch out right field. Not bad for the ballie of the side.

Cardinals major B’s played Stella at home on Sunday, 13 October for the first game of the 2013/14 season in the Grand Challenge. The lack of practise and sense of rustiness were evident in the first frame, where the first three batters went straight out.

Jason Carelse came back at Stella with his pitching and kept things tight, allowing only two runs in. The well-trained Stella youngsters kept Cardinals on their toes throughout the game and Cardinals managed to take the lead in the third frame, capitalising on errors created by pressure. Jason managed two strike-outs in his pitching stint. Ryan Loxton came on in the fourth frame and although his arm looked strong, he managed only one strike out as he battled to find the strike zone after a long absence from the game. Stella came straight back and went four runs ahead.

Robert Ackermann came on after a year’s absence from the game and found the zone fairly quickly, managing six strike outs.

Robert also took a fly catch and Brenden Visser took a fly catch at centre field. Ryan at short stop and Tyler Booysen at second base worked well in the infield and topped off three throw outs from Beven Merrick the catcher, for runners trying to steal to second base. Runs were scored by Tyler 2, Ryan 3, Jason 2, Robert 4, Brendon 2, Russell Haygarth 1, Kyle Hartzenberg 1, Jono Verral 1. Well done to Cardinals Major B on the job well done for their 16-12 victory.

On Sunday, 20 October Cardinals promo played Ashley Angels and won 16-5 – this with only eight players. Everyone came to the party and put on a good batting performance. Stand-out batters on the day were Melanie Baker 4 for 4, Reece Ackermann 3 for 3, Bevan Merrick 2 for 2. Among the pitchers, Craig Dempsey got seven strike-outs and zero earned runs scored. Unfortunately a few silly errors on the field allowed for unnecesary runs to be scored.
