Toti AC needs marshals at cross country league event this weekend

This event must hail as one of the “toughies” on the cross country schedule in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

THE 11th league event in the 2015 KZNA cross-country season was held at the UKZN sports fields in Durban, hosted by Verulam Athletics Club, on Saturday, 1 August.

This event must hail as one of the ‘toughies’ on the cross country schedule in KwaZulu-Natal.

The course was run across the KZN varsity sports fields, through the bush on the East end of the complex, which included some tough climbs through the wooded areas and steep descents, then some flat, fast running across two hockey fields and an extremely steep hill climb back through the race start and finish area. All the events were held in accordance with the IAAF rules and the respective races were on a course comprising of a tough 2km loop with a number of steep uphills and declines.

Once again the event numbers were disappointing in comparison with last season.

Amanzimtoti AC’s numbers were also disappointing with only six athletes entered – two women and four men, comprising of three juniors; one sub vet and two masters.

Thanks to the following athletes who kept the Toti flag flying: U10 boys Kyle Pottinger fourth 8.16; U13 girls Emma Pretorious fifth 13.56; U13 boys Nathan Haylock first 11.39; master women 50+ Jolanda Broodryk second 22.56; master men 65+ Cecil Clarke third 35.30; master men 35+ Warren Gibson ninth 39.52.

Amanzimtoti AC hosts the next cross country event, league 11 on Saturday, 8 August at Hutchison Park. Support your local athletics club. Remember that cross country is not reserved for the top athletes, any licensed athlete no matter what level is welcome to enter on the day, in particular to this event in our home town.

Toti AC appeals to all club members, parents and friends for assistance on the day. Help is needed with marshaling on the route, assisting with entries and results and in the finish area. Contact Des van der Merwe on 082-806-0348 or Cecil Clarke on 083-805-1277 if you can assist or for more information.
