Road cyclists saddle up for race training

This past weekend some rode south to Park Rynie, while others did the full loop to Umzinto.

AMANZIMTOTI Cycling Club’s roadies continue to enjoy their training rides during the week in and around Toti from Tuesday to Friday, leaving from the Engen garage on Rockview Road.

On the weekend, the distance is increased.

This past weekend some rode south to Park Rynie, while others did the full loop to Umzinto. There is only two weeks to go to the Midmar Notts road race which is on Sunday, 21 February and four weeks to the Argus, which takes place on Sunday, 6 March. Everyone is hard in training for those two events.

The SA Road Race Championships take place this whole week in Westville, with the culmination on Sunday, 14 February being the elite road race, where the likes of Louis Meintjies and Jaques Janse van Rensburg will be riding.

It is with a very sad heart that the club reports on the terrible accident that shocked the cycling community on Sunday, 7 February. Two cyclists were tragically killed on the M4 Ruth First Highway when an alleged drunk driver ploughed into the group of cyclists from Kings Park Cycling Club. They were out training for upcoming races. The club’s sincere condolences go out to the families of Richard da Silva and Jared Dwyer.
