Skate park moves to tennis club
The new skate park is situated between Baggies beach and Doonside beach.
Toti skaters can skate to their heart’s content at the newly opened Warner Beach Skate Park.
The man behind all the hard work in moving and refurbishing the ramps from the old skate park in Civic Way is Raymond Wittstock.
“We had the idea in December to move the skate park to the Kingsburgh tennis courts, as the skaters complained the surface at Civic Way was too rough and there was too much crime,” said Raymond.
The new skate park is situated between Baggies beach and Doonside beach, and is accessable from either side.
“In January I got the go-ahead from the parks department. In mid-January M Projects moved the half pipe for us and work commenced.”
Raymond’s company Engineering Process Control (EPC) has supported the park with labour. EIS in Jacobs sponsored paint, while Islandview Construction and Safe-Scaff donated boards to refurbish the ramps.
The park will be officially opened on Sunday with a social day where Durban skaters have been invited to join Toti enthusiasts to test the new ramps and enjoy lunch.
“If anyone has old skateboards or parts, please donate them as we will give them to underprivileged children,” said Raymond. Call him on 082-826-5398.
Everyone is invited to enjoy the facilities and the park has few rules, but Raymond cautions skaters to watch their belongings and remember they skate at their own risk.
“We don’t want anyone skating at night and rather come down in groups to be safe. On weekends, this is the perfect place to come socialise and skate. The park is also strictly drug-free.”
