THE only Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC) team in the women’s midweek league continued its winning streak last week, winning their fourth game in a row. Doreen Salmond, Marion Crouch, Nita Meumann and Adrienne Robbins are currently the log leaders, so the club wishes them well for the rest of the competition.
In men’s inter-club league first division, Toti A lost 0-7 to Hillary A; 2nd division Toti B lost 2-5 to Westville B; 3rd division Toti C won 5-2 against Dbn Wanderers B; 5th division Toti D lost 0-5 to Westville CC C; 7th division Toti E beat Le Domaine B 4-1; 7th division Toti F beat Le Domaine C 5-0.
Unfortunately both of the club teams of Robyn Hutton and Peter Callaghan; and Greg McLeod and Marion Crouch were knocked out of the PN mixed pairs last weekend. However, if you enjoy watching good bowls, go along and watch the semis and finals at ABC in two weeks’ time.
Val de Kok was in great form last week, beating Margaret van Belkum in a first round women’s open singles game, and then going on to beat Linda McGregor in the second. Also in the second round, Doreen Salmond beat Marion Crouch by one shot in a very close game.
Well done to the winners of the women’s trips – Barbara Beamson, Denise Bingham and Amanda Ninow. Runners-up were Julie Sutherland, Pam Chalder-Royle and Annetjie Boag; and second session went to Vera Broskie, Jacqui Fouché and Sue Blount. The 100 board was won by Pam Chalder-Royle, and Amanda Ninow won the ‘spider’ with R96 going to Hospice.
Piet Barnard and Gert Richter won the men’s 2-4-2, and runners-up were Glen Scorgie and Peter Callaghan. Second session was won by Alec Stirzaker and Ian Mills.
In the Victory KwikSpar inter-club nominated mixed pairs, the winning team was Vish Studinski and Sue Welsh. Keith Berry and Vera Broskie were the runners-up. Glen Scorgie and Jackie Holdrick won first session and Gert and Wilma Richter won second session. Heather Brown won the draw and five lucky couples won free drinks.
The attendance draw was a ‘must win’ at last week’s TGIF, so names were drawn until a winner was found. Stella Erasmus, Rosemary Roche and Mike Burns were not present, so the jackpot finally went to a smiling Dallas Davis. The pot will revert to R100 next week.
It was good to see Noreen Butler back at the club, and her luck was in, as she won the 100 board. Vera Broskie’s number was drawn in the key draw. Linda McGregor was unfortunately unable to find the right key for her, so next week’s draw will be R4,500.
Potjie day on Sunday, 1 May is open to all bowlers and non-bowlers interested in learning the game. It’s a fun morning and for R50 you will get a game of bowls, mid-morning sandwich and a potjie lunch. Flat shoes are essential, but dress is casual with a Hawaiian theme and there are prizes for the best dressed. Be at ABC before 8.30am to register.
There are also prizes to be won if you enter the potjie cooking competition. To do so, call the club manager on 031-903-3857 for details.
Birthdays this week are Ann Myburg, Gaynor Snyman, Dallas Davis and Michael Burns, and finally, good luck to all playing in the Margate tournament from 2 to 6 May.
