AMANZIMTOTI Golf Club hosted the SA Kids tournament recently, with 32 youngsters from all over KZN taking part on the day.
It was great to see the enthusiasm of the players.
No doubt this event is the training ground for future golfers, and AGC was the proud host of this great event.
The men’s seniors league fixture was held at the Bluff course on 27 June. The Bluff boys claimed a narrow win on their home course with Toti and Royal only one and four points behind. Royal Durban still lead the log standings, with Toti six points behind them, and with an increasing gap to the other four clubs, it is looking like a two horse race for the trophy. Barry Buckland’s 42 points was the top individual score. The next round will be played at Mount Edgecombe on Monday, 18 July.
AGC will host the Amanzimtoti rugby and cricket clubs annual golf day on Sunday, 7 August, and there are still a few tee-off times available. Cost is R1,500 per fourball, which includes a halfway meal voucher and dinner afterwards. Call Carol Mathews at Mark White Nissan Toti on 076-100-5845 to book your place.
The Friday afternoon sundowner competitions are proving very popular, and the sponsors of the lucky draw prizes are the cause of the excitement. Last Friday Mark White Nissan Amanzimtoti were sponsors, and Neil Oberholzer the lucky recipient of the moola. AGC thanks Mark White Nissan for its support, and commends them on their community-centered ethos.
For the record, 32 players took part in the sundowner, with Ian Bender shooting a stunning 24 points for his nine holes, followed by Bobby Milne and Mike Halse on 23. Norbert DuPont came fourth on 22 points.
The Wednesday competition had 33 players, and Brian Stephen took the honours with 41, followed by Martin Rumbelow on 40 and Nigel Johnston on 39.
On Saturday the format was monthly mug for the men and KZNLGA medal and putts for the women, in conjunction with the first round of the Walter Bruyn trophy. The second round of this trophy will be played this coming Saturday, with IPS for the rest of the field.
Winner of the silver division for the women was Gerda Heydenrych on 72 nett, with Lynette Roodt claiming the bronze division win on 74 nett. Francis Hoole had the least putts on the day, only needing to use the short stick 30 times in her round.
The men had 62 players on Saturday, and the A division was won by Shaun Roberts on 69 nett, followed by Bruce Whiting on 71. B division winner was Ian Bender on 69 nett followed by Hu Turnbull on 71. Peter Wallace had nett 72 which won him the C division, followed by Pat Vickers on 75. Shaun was both best gross and best nett, while Martin Rumbelow and Kalvin van Rensburg were nearest the pins on the seventh and 17th respectively.
The outgoing greenkeeper who has served the club for many years, Errol Woods, has hung up his gardening gloves. Errol has provided Toti with his expertise, kept the greens in good condition – sometimes in very adverse weather conditions – and for this the club thanks him.
A reminder, AGC welcomes all visitors to go along and enjoy a round of golf on its beautiful course. Phone the pro shop on 031-902-4144 to make a booking. The range is also open for those who wish to hone their skills.
