“While living in the United Kingdom, I was playing tennis, however, with the unpredictable weather, I decided to play indoors, which led to squash. It’s a social yet competitive sport for people of all ages and experience levels. I play twice a week,” he said.

Christine, whose involvement extends to various roles, and who is currently serving as secretary, has been an integral part of the club’s growth, earning her honorary membership in 2011.

Her husband, Neil, served as chairperson for about 15 years and brings 25 years of squash experience and a legacy of leadership.

The couple, who recently received the Long-Service Award trophy for Toti Squash as well as for the KZN Squash Club, is set to bid farewell as they prepare to emigrate.

“The club is a big part of our lives. We are going to miss the culture, the friendships, how the community comes on board to uplift the courts at their own expense as well as how players give up their spare time to teach the younger generation,” said Neil.

Peter added that whether on the court or behind the scenes, Christine and Neil have left a mark, shaping the club into what it is today.

The club is currently hosting its summer league tournaments in preparation for the much-anticipated winter league.

“The summer league is more social and open to anyone who wants to play and gear up for the competitive winter league. This is where teams in the province are ranked and compete to be selected for club champs,” said Neil.
