Amanzimtoti cricket teams head to semi-finals

In the semi-finals, Amanzimtoti Cricket Club's first team will play against Delta Cricket Club, their women's team against the KCCD Women's Team and their veterans' team against the KCCD Zulu Veterans.

AMANZIMTOTI Cricket Club’s (ACC) first team and women’s team have made it into the semi-finals of the KZN Cricket Union’s T20 after winning the last of the pool matches on October 13.

ACC’s first team, competing in the KZN Castle Premier T20 competition, travelled to the Kingsmead Oval to play against African Warriors Cricket Club in a top-of-the-table Pool B clash.

The club’s scribe, Peter Lonie, said that by winning the toss and electing to bowl first, ACC’s opening bowling pair had the hosts in early trouble at 19/3 after 3 overs and then 65/5 at the halfway mark.

“Rob Ackermann, Luc Jacobs, Muhammad Khan and Gareth Lonie each bagged 2 wickets apiece, leaving African Warriors 121 all out in 19.5 overs. Jarryd Michaux and Tylor Trenoweth got ACC off to a blistering start in their chase of 122 runs, bringing up their 50-run partnership in just the 4th over. Michaux would go on and score 41, Trenoweth 31 and ACC skipper, Tegan Naidoo, was there at the end with a run-a-ball 18 not out. ACC reached the target of 122 in the 15th over and secured a 6-wicket bonus point victory,” he said.

This victory sees ACC’s first team top Pool B and advance to the semi-finals. They will be playing against Delta Cricket Club at the Toti Oval on Sunday morning (October 20).

ACC women’s team played Ilembe Cricket Club at home in a KZN Castle Women’s Promotion T20 match. The hosts lost the toss, and Ilembe decided to bat first.

The club’s Yolande Benade said that with the first ball of the match, Iqra Khan claimed a wicket, bowling out one of the Ilembe openers.

“Ilembe went on to score 123/5 in their 20 overs with Peggy Niemann bagging 2 wickets and Megan Powell and Khan taking a wicket apiece. In chasing the target of 124 to secure victory, Khan got ACC well on their way with an innings of 34 runs before being dismissed. Powell’s 40 not-out saw the hosts reach the required 124 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets. ACC won by 8 wickets,” she said.

This victory sees ACC’s women’s team progress to the semi-finals. They will be playing against KCCD Women’s Team at Toti 2 on Sunday morning.

The veterans’ team had a bye (extra) over the weekend. They head to the semi-finals against KCCD Zulu Veterans at the Toti Oval on Saturday (October 19) from 13:00.
