Young songbird takes to expo stage
Keely writes her own songs, plays the guitar and is learning the keyboard.
Toti songbird, Keely Crocker will perform on Saturday, 1 November at the Africa Marine and Leisure Expo at Scottburgh beach at 11am.
“I’ve never performed at this expo before, so I’m very excited about it,” said the bubbly grade 6 Amanzimtoti Primary School pupil. ”It was a surprise to hear I will be performing.”
Keely loves music, writes her own songs, plays the guitar and is learning the keyboard with a musical dream to be famous and have her own record label one day.
“I will sing four songs at the expo. One of them is my own song that I wrote and I hope it will be released on radio.”
Keely suffers from chronic kidney disease. Throughout all she has been through, she remains positive, lives life to the fullest and doesn’t let her disease get her down.
Her goal is to be an inspiration to other children with chronic diseases like herself and to encourage them to follow their dreams.
She has taken part in music workshops and contests and won the bambino category of the East Coast’s Got Talent competition in 2011.
She has just finished performing in ‘A Tribute to Disney’, an Amanzimtoti Community Theatre (ACT) project that helped raise funds for the South African touch rugby team and Amanzimtoti SPCA.
“I think my performances went well in ‘A Tribute to Disney’, as I got loud applause.
I’m comfortable on stage and I love it. I’m always nervous before, but once I start performing, I am confident.
Performing on stage is something I would like to pursue. I hope to be a famous actress or singer one day and have my own record label.”
