SATURDAY, 10 OCTOBER: Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church at 24 Riverside Road, Amanzimtoti holds a craft market and a sale of household goods at 8.30am. Anyone wanting to hire a table, can call the office on 031-903-3328 between Monday and Friday 9am to 3pm.

SATURDAY, 10 OCTOBER: Local artists will exhibit their smaller artworks at the Star of the Sea, Catholic Church at the annual craft day. There will be paintings available on many different subjects, including landscapes, portraits, flowers, seascapes and so on. Browse through the paintings that will be available in oils, watercolours, pastels and inks. The craft fair will be open between 9am and 4pm. For more information, call Patricia on 082-824-7990.

MONDAY, 12 OCTOBER: South African Association of Retired Persons (SAARP) monthly meeting is at 9.30am for 10am at Toti library in the activities room. Ed will continue his talk on the bees. All are welcome.

WEDNESDAY, 14 OCTOBER: Dr Dermarlin Govender, trauma specialist at Nkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital, Durban will speak about his experiences including his specialisation in plastic surgery at the Amanzimtoti Rotary Club meeting at Amanzimtoti Country Club at 6.30pm. SATURDAY, 24 OCTOBER: Mountain Backpackers Club hosts a Kloof Gorge day hike upstream to two waterfalls, leaving from the picnic site car park at 8.30am. There is a small entrance fee. Take sun protection, hat, water, snacks and a rain jacket. Moderate fitness is required. Confirm with John beforehand. Contact John McGovern on 082-659-5111.

FRIDAY, 23 OCTOBER: South African Association of Retired Persons (SAARP) braai outing at Shellhole on from 11am. Take own meat, plates and cutlery. Cash bar is to be used. For queries call Maureen on 031-903-4182 or on 082-436-9281.

FRIDAY, 30 OCTOBER: Amanzimtoti SPCA holds a music quiz at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club at 6.30pm for 7pm. Entry is R20 per person. It will be a bring and share per table. Cold drinks are available at the bar. Email pro@spcatoti.co.za to book your table or contact 031-904- 2424/5.

SATURDAY, 31 OCTOBER: Mountain Backpackers Club hikers will tackle the African Fish Eagle trail with lots of birdlife through the Beachwood mangroves and along the north bank of the Umgeni river. Meet at Green Hub Durban at 8am to leave at 8.15am. The hike will be cancelled if it rains. Take cash for tea at Springfield SPCA at the halfway mark. The trail is about 13kms long. SATURDAY, 14 NOVEMBER: Fundraiser to support Mooihawens dementia and Alzheimer’s disease care centre with relationship expert and author, Gretha Wiid as guest speaker at Sweetwaters Church in Sanders Road from 9am.

WEDNESDAY, 2 DECEMBER: Mountain Backpackers Club hosts a beach walk from Umdloti to Umhlanga over a distance of about 12,5km on sand. Meet at 8am at Umdloti beach carpark to walk to Umhlanga and back. Lunch at the Bush Tavern afterwards so book in advance. The walk will be cancelled if it rains.
