Lawlessness starts at home

Lawlessness and disregard for other people’s safety starts at home.

EDITOR – We fume about corruption in government, we mumble about bribery at the licensing offices and we bemoan the inaccurate crime statistics but as the saying goes ‘people in glass houses…’.

Take a drive along Seadoone Road away from the coast and see the total disregard the general public has for the law.

No-one stops at the three-way stop at the junction of Stanwick and Seadoone.

I shudder to think that my grandchildren might soon have to cross this intersection to go to school. Municipal vehicles, police vehicles, taxis, delivery vehicles, motorcycles and even bicycles are seen flashing through the intersection without even slowing down – never mind obeying our traffic laws and coming to a full stop, looking left and right and left again and proceeding with caution, as I learnt when I went for my driving test.

Lawlessness and disregard for other people’s safety starts at home. Look at yourself and ensure that you are obeying the law – before you start throwing stones. It may be your loved one who doesn’t come home after travelling down Seadoone Road.
