Toti lights up for festive season
Planning is on track with the first section of the tree already in place
Toti’s gigantic Christmas tree on the promenade will once again light up the festive season, with the official switching on of the lights scheduled for Saturday, 12 December.
“Planning is on track with the first section of the tree already in place. The remainder will be installed within the next week and new LED lights have already landed and are clearing customs,” said ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge.
The official switching on of the lights will coincide with a fleamarket on the promenade, at which time the Durban South Business Forum will also make a final appeal for sponsorship towards its ‘wonderbox’ project that aims to distribute 300 packages to children, teens and the elderly for Christmas. Distribution is planned for Friday, 18 December.
A second fleamarket on Wednesday, 16 December will coincide with a carols by candlelight by the Witpoortjie Reformed Church and Amanzimtoti Apostolic Church.
A percentage of proceeds from the fleamarkets will be donated to the Pregnancy Resource Centre. For more information or to book a stall, contact Carol Statt on 072-414-8582.
“Owners of local restaurants have confirmed their support of both the fleamarket and Christmas tree initiative and will open up their play areas to children,” said Cllr Beetge.
“Likewise have we met and confirmed participation from the informal trader sector that are extremely excited that the fleamarket will again extend towards their municipal structures in Rogies Park as it previously attracted crowds that they were unable to do by themselves.
That is, however not the end of it, as DSBF is also planning to install a light feature at Winklespruit beach to resemble a lighthouse, with commissioning scheduled for 15 December.”
