A TRAVELOGUE at 21 Club’s January luncheon has become a popular tradition.

Treasurer Jenny Perkins and secretary Sharon Hofmann presented a captivating summary of their adventures on holiday with their husbands and friends in July 2017.

Jenny, who is best known now as an Avon group sales leader, was formerly highly valued in education at Athlone Park and Umbogintwini Primary and then as principal of Rehoboth from 1993 to 2005.

It was there that Sharon and Jenny met.

Sharon matriculated at Kingsway High and later studied gravure engraving at Durban Technical Training College. Her daughters attended Rehoboth School and she and Jenny have been friends ever since.

Sharon’s table décor was truly ‘olde worlde’ with a few stacked books, a floral tea-cup and saucer, roses, pearls and pebbles on a cream lace runner.

Jenny did the talking (who would have guessed) and Sharon prepared and presented the amazing slide show.

Their trip included the Russian Neva River cruise including visits to cathedrals and other architectural splendours. Palaces were shown displaying the lavish decorations and amazing opulence of the time.

Also embraced were Holland, Scandinavia, Germany and Austria. Tunnels and caves, churches, markets, monuments, fortresses and museums were shown. They even went on ‘The Sound of Music’ tour and to an Andre Rieu show at Magstricht.

Many thanks to Jenny and Sharon for sharing their wonderful experiences.

Lords and Legends’ Greg came to the party with Kassler chops and apple strudel and cream which suited the occasion perfectly.

Viv Jarratt and Janice Webb tendered their resignations due to relocation. Hopefully they will be able to visit from time to time.

Welcome was extended to new members Hazel Lodetti, Barbara Collins, Chris Jensen, Ann Waterson, Sue Laing, Aleta Evert and Annie Paterson. Many enjoyable and rewarding times lie ahead. The 21 Club membership now stands at 90 with an encouraging waiting list.

The club notes with sadness the death of past member, Christine Darley.

The 21 Club St Valentines luncheon will be held at noon for 12.30pm in the conference room at Lords and Legends. Décor colours are the traditional red, black and white. The luncheon takes place on Wednesday, 28 February at noon for 12.30pm.

The club looks forward to hosting the speaker, Air Force Colonel (retired) Steve Bekker.

Confirmation to attend or not must be received by the relevant committee members by Friday, 23 February. Guests, who must be invited by a member, will be accommodated if there is room.
