MONDEOR SAPS officers arrested two Gauteng Flying Squad officers involved in armed robbery of a businessman in the South.
The third officer involved in the armed robbery turned into a wanted fugitive after he was implicated by his accomplices in a robbery at Southgate Mall on April 2.
Three members of the Gauteng Flying Squad allegedly followed a businessman from the mall after a withdrawal of over R200 000 and robbed him.
According to SAPS spokesperson, Noxolo Kweza, Gilbert Maho of Maho Financial Services was stopped by uniformed officers driving a marked police vehicle. A total of R230 000 was withdrawn by Maho and 187 bank cards used to withdraw the money belonging to people owing Maho.
After Maho reported the robbery at Mondeor SAPS, two officers went out to investigate and managed to recover R130 000 of the stolen money. The Flying Squad officers were then instructed to report to the station, where they were later identified by the victim.
Kweza confirmed: “The policemen who arrived with R18 100 in cash‚ were identified by Maho as being among the suspects who had allegedly robbed him. The other policeman along with the two other men who robbed Maho are still on the run.”
The community has been urged to come forward with any information relating to the incident or to report other incidents of crime where police officers are implicated.
