Four-way-stop at Tiago Shopping Centre
"Letaba Road will become more congested with the new four-way-stop street," expressed a concerend resident.
EASTCLIFFE: Residents and motorists who use Orpen Road to get to the Glen Shopping Centre have been expressing their concerns about the new shopping centre, Tiago, which is now open.
“Traffic flow down Orpen Road to The Glen, especially at weekends, is a nightmare and often there’s a back-up. With this new centre opening, it’s going to be much worse,” said one motorist, who uses the road every day. Another commented, “Once you get into Tiago Shopping Centre, how are you going to get back out onto Orpen Road. It will be virtually impossible at weekends.”
Motorists will be pleased to know a four-way-stop has been put in at the entrance to Tiago Shopping Centre, which will also make access from Letaba Road much easier for motorists to get onto Orpen Road.
“This will certainly help motorists coming out of Letaba Road. Before the four-way-stop was put in you could sit there for ages trying to get onto Orpen Road,” said a resident of Eastcliffe. “I’m sure many residents who live in the Eastcliffe and Oakdene areas will now make use of this four-way-stop street at Letaba Road, because getting onto Orpen Road from all the other access roads is dreadful. You quite literally put your life at risk and often have to take a chance and hope for the best.”
“I think Letaba Road will become much busier now for through traffic from Oakdene and Linmeyer. This will definitely make our roads more congested,” said a concerned Eastcliffe resident.
As the CHRONICLE was there taking photographs of the new four-way-stop street, two vehicles sped over the stop street coming down from Comaro Crossing.
Motorists are advised to drive at 40kmh along this section of the road and to be aware of the new four-way-stop street.
