Young Ballet Stars of the World

Outstanding ballet with sequences that call for a standing ovation

Alberton – Dirk Badenhorst (Director) opened the show with a welcoming message for the Young Ballet Stars of the World at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City on February 25 and on February 26, the show was off to a quick start. He encouraged the various groups of dancing participants and said a space was created for them where they could exchange contact and Facebook details in order to remain connected. The dancers range from ages 10 to 25.

Ballet is an art form in which every precise movement by the dancer conveys a certain message or story through a dance sequence. The ballet dancers from all regions including Cuba, South Korea and South Africa made the dances look easy, which actually require a lot of time, dedication and much practice.

The theme of the show remained the same, though costume changes and different types of elements were used to change the initial idea of the story in each number. The various dance styles were according to either tradition or a way in which each country portrayed a ballet sequence.

There was a mix of Spanish-styled dancing along with a contemporary piece, which created a sense of balance with the ballet performances.

“Ballet aficionados agree that it has been many years since SA saw ballet quite like this,” said Dirk Badenhorst.
