Track team announcement for World Champs

New track team announced to represent SA.

CYCLING South Africa’s Track Commission has announced that the following riders have been selected to represent South Africa at the 2014 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Cali, Colombia from February 26 to March 2.

Men:

Bernard Esterhuizen (KwaZulu-Natal)

Nolan Hoffman (KwaZulu-Natal)

Team Manager: Dean Edwards

Both the OPEX (Operation Excellence) athletes have qualified for more than one event at the 2014 World Championships. With the upcoming Commonwealth Games top of mind, both Bernard Esterhuizen and Nolan Hoffman will have to deliver top five performances for an automatic qualification to the Games.

A London 2012 Olympian, Esterhuizen will compete in the 1km TT, of which he is a former Junior World Champion, and the Match Sprint events. 2012 World Championship 15km Scratch silver medallist Hoffman will compete in the 15km Scratch Race and the 30km Points Race after he qualified for the two events by competing in the three 2013/2014 UCI Track World Cup rounds from early November 2013.
