Police makes several arrests

JOHANNESBURG – Over the weekend of February 18 to 23, Moffatview SAPS arrested 38 people for various crimes: armed robbery – one; assault common – two; assault GBH – seven; assault under domestic violence – two; common robbery – two; dealing in liquor without a license – one; drunken driving – one; fraud – four; malicious damage to property – one; pointing of a firearm – one; possessions of copper – one; possession of dagga – three; possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle – two; shoplifting – five; trespassing – one; theft under false pretences – four.

Meanwhile, on Friday February 14 at about 11:32, Sergeant Nhlapho was driving on Nephin Road in South Hills on his way to buy lunch. The police member noticed a group of young males going across Nephin Road into the bush. The males were carrying a large screen television and small items such as computer monitors and laptops.

Sergeant Nhlapho chased after the suspects and they started running. Two members of the public assisted Sergeant Nhlapho. The suspect dropped the television screen. Sergeant Nhlapho fired a warning shot, commanding the suspects to stop. One of them fell on the ground and was arrested. The suspect was in possession of an LG monitor and DVD’s in a black plastic bag. The other four suspects ran away. Sergeant Nhlapho took the plasma television to the station.
