Two other deaths reported at Rotunda Park
There were two other deaths reported after the body of a man with a bloodied head at the Rotunda Park on Thursday June 19.
JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Residents were shocked to see the body of a man with a bloodied head at the Rotunda Park on Thursday morning June 19.
Booysens Police and paramedics were called to the scene.
Ward 124 Cllr Sydney Radebe was on the scene and he said this is a third death in the park in as many months. “Beside this death there were two other deaths reported in this park. It is alleged that some of the people who are targeted here were from the nearby taverns. The other person was stabbed to death in the park,” he said.
He also mentioned that the park is about to be revamped thanks to the Corridors of Freedom projects.
Community Policing Forum Sector 3 Chairperson Rothwell George said he first saw the body when he was taking his granddaughter to crèche. “When we crossed the park, I saw a body lying on the ground, and then the police came. As the chairperson, we often hold meetings at the Rotunda Park, and I would inform the police about the dangers in the park. However, although you can appreciate the work of the police, they cannot be there at all times.
“In this area we tried to establish Neighbourhood Watch, but the residents do not come to the party, you cannot imagine how many public meetings we called and the attendance was very poor. Crime affects all of us, and we need to do something as a community,” he explained.
