R400 000 worth of petrol missing

A truck heading to Sebokeng, from Alrode was hijacked carrying 35 000 litres of petrol, the contents were emptied soon after.

JOHANNESBURG – Soweto police reported that a truck transporting 35 000 litres of petrol was hijacked in Johannesburg in the early hours of Tuesday morning, a few hours later it was found empty in Protea Glen.

According to News24, “Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the truck was hijacked around 02:00.”

Makhubela was quoted to have said, “The truck driver said he was hijacked by four men on his way from Alrode to Sebokeng.

“They forced him to stop when he was on the freeway and they [the hijackers] dropped him off in Brakpan,” said Makhubela.

The truck was en route to Sebokeng, near Vanderbijlpark, to deliver the 35 000 litres of petrol.

“The value of the petrol is estimated to be more than R400 000,” said Makhubela.

“The truck was recovered in Protea Glen – empty.”

Makhubela appealed to anyone who might have seen what happened to the petrol to come forward with information.
