Dancers off to IDO World Tap Championship
A complement of 25 dancers from three dancing schools in Johannesburg will soon be leaving for Riesa, Germany, representing South Africa in the IDO World Tap Championships.
JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Bev Wood and Jade Tannous Academy as well as Cally Passmore and Adi Levin are thrilled to have dancers from their dancing academy’s competing in this championship, which will take place between December 2 and 6 this year.
The CHRONICLE spoke to Leigh Meredith, choreographer for Bev Wood and Jade Tannous Academy, and she said how excited the dancers are to be off to Germany.
“In order for dancers to qualify for this prestigious event they need to enter a minimum of two SADTA competitions in the World Trial Circuit (WTC) sections in order to gain points to qualify to compete overseas.
“The tap formation team received first place at both competitions and qualified in pole position to represent South Africa and compete in Riesa, Germany.
“We have been practising for weeks now and the dancers are feeling very confident. The formation team consists of 18 dancers and to tie in with Africa I have created a dance sequence theme called Museum of the Hunted – Save the Rhino.

“On Saturday October 25 all the dancers put their footprints on a large piece of cloth in the shape of an SA flag, representing 1 000 000 footprints to save Africa. This will be taken to Germany with us,” said Leigh.
