Brazen criminals hit medical practice

Victim of laptop theft at doctors’ offices reveals shocking information on what you didn’t see in the video

Candid camera: Video of two women caught on camera stealing at medical practice has gone viral.

CCTV footage of two women at a medical practice in Mulbarton stealing a laptop on January 6 has gone viral on YouTube.

What can be seen on the footage are two women walking into the practice on True North Road in Mulbarton. While one woman distracts the two receptionists by setting an appointment to see the doctor two weeks from the day, the other sneaks into a consulting area, stealing an Acer laptop. The two women managed to walk out of the doctor’s office undetected.

Comaro CHRONICLE spoke to the victim to find out exactly what transpired on the day that her property was stolen by two seemingly decent clients.

Administration officer Jessica Pienaar, whose Acer laptop was stolen, said that the incident took place in the afternoon at about 14:30.

“It was still school holidays and my daughter was here at the office. She asked if she could play games on the computer,” explained Pienaar. After playing games for a while on the laptop, Jessica’s daughter was then distracted by her cellphone. Little did the young girl know that a criminal was prowling the corridors looking for something to steal.

The unsuspecting girl and the laptop was in a small open-plan office near the reception counter.

“The lady came in to make an appointment for two weeks later. The doctor’s office was empty, so she could’ve seen the doctor right then and there,” she revealed.

Although the laptop was right in front of Pienaar’s daughter, her head was in a downward position and her attention squarely focused on the mobile phone with her headphones on. That was when the thieving woman leaned over and removed the laptop from the table.

“I think it was a crime of opportunity, and they were lucky my daughter had her head down. It took them ten minutes to steal the laptop and we only realised that it was gone a full six minutes after it was stolen,” said Pienaar.

Although the incident took place earlier in the month, the video was released to the public by Glenvista CPF on Facebook and by Crime Watch only on February 2.
