New approach in fight against sex workers

A resident who cannot be identified, due to safety reasons, said she has resorted to naming and shaming the clients of the unwelcome sex workers because their clients are also part of the problem.

IT appears the residents of Kibler Park and Rispark will not be letting up in their fight against the illegal sex trade taking place in their area.

A new approach has been introduced in efforts to rid streets such as Bambi and Gazelle Roads and Peggy Vera Street of the collection of sex workers who still gather there almost on a daily basis, despite a recent peaceful protest by residents.

A resident who cannot be identified, due to safety reasons, said she has resorted to naming and shaming the clients of the unwelcome sex workers because their clients are also part of the problem.

“I have had enough of my children’s rights to grow up as children being violated every day when I drive them home from school,” said the fed-up woman.

”We, as parents, set parental controls and limit what they see on TV and now this is happening right on our doorsteps!

”I have had enough; if the cops won’t do anything then this mommy will sort it out! You can quote me on that, too.”

The resident recently took a photo of a man who is alleged to be a client of the sex workers and went as far as posting it on Facebook, in an effort to name and shame the alleged client.

One of the many reasons given by a number of residents, showing support for this new approach, is the allegation that Nigerian pimps threaten to throw bricks at residents when they ask the sex workers to move out of the area.

“They wait for our children to get off the bus then send them across the main road to Bells, to buy food and drinks for them – this is endangering these children’s lives,” said another resident of Rispark who did not want to be named.

”They have no regard for anyone except themselves. As we pay tax, rates, etc., do we not have a right to want to keep our area clean and safe?”

Mondeor SAPS is aware of the problem and, in the past, has made several arrests.
