Post box nightmare at Columbine Square Suideroord
Since Mondeor post boxes at Columbine Square, Suideroord, were smashed into by a car on the evening of June 3, only some have been repaired, leaving other post box holders with no post box.
SUIDEROORD – Residents are fuming that they are paying for a service that they are not getting. “I’m 70 years old and last week had to queue for over half an hour in the post office to see if I had any mail. If that’s not bad enough when it was my turn the post office counter employee handed me bundles and bundles of mail to go through to find my own mail! Why can’t the post office employees go through it all, separating it for each PO Box number? I understand there’s no actual post box to put it into but surely a plan can be made in the meantime,” the elderly woman told the CHRONICLE.
The CHRONICLE reporter visited the post office at Columbine Square last week and spoke to a few people in the queue. “This is absolute nonsense. I’ve been queuing for 20 minutes and now when I get to the counter I have to look through all this mail to find my own post. I haven’t time for this,” said Samantha Cilliers, a Mondeor resident.
“I don’t have a post box here and just want stamps for a letter but I still have to stand and wait my turn while other customers go through piles of mail. It’s extremely frustrating,” said a customer.
A telephone number for the Communication Department, 012 649 6000, on the wall of the post office, just rang when the reporter tried in vain to contact someone at this number.
An employee at Witbos Head Post Office has been asked for comment but up to now no comment has been forthcoming.
