Police teach children about safety

Mondeor SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit educates little ones on safety.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Children are very impressionable when they are young and Mondeor SAPS used this advantage to educate the learners at KiddiKona Nursery, in Kibler Park, on staying safe at all times.

Sergeant Shirley Gqoba of Mondeor SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit was at the school on July 21 and she taught the children about bullying and how to identify it.

“If someone takes your lunch, lunch money or any of your belongings by force, then that is bullying,” said Gqoba. As soon as the little ones heard this, they couldn’t wait to tattle tale on each other to the police officer.

According to Mondeor SAPS communications officer, Constable Elizabeth Sibongile Mnguni, the children were very curious and asked a lot of questions.

They were also taught about the dangers of playing with firearms and also reminded not to engage with strangers.

By the end of the session, the children were all aware of the SAPS emergency contact number (10111) and Child Line (011 645 2000).
