Kempton police spokesperson, Capt Jethro Mtshali, confirmed that Les was sentenced on September 1 at Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court. He was also deemed unfit to possess a firearm.
The former salesman, who is originally from Umhlanga in KwaZulu-Natal, stayed at the guest house from March 6 this year for a number of days, racking up a bill of thousands of rands for accommodation and food without paying a single cent.
Each time the guest house owner questioned him about the money, Les told him that SAFA would pay the bill as he was involved with football organisation.
After a few days Les disappeared, leaving the owner with a bill of R4 800. The owner opened a case of fraud after realising he had been scammed.
After a few days of investigations, D/Sgt Bheki Sibisi received a tip-off that led him to another plot in Bredell where Les was staying. Les was arrested on March 11.
Station commander Brig Bertha Kgoroba said she was pleased about the sentencing and applauded the investigating officer and other parties involved in the case and arrest for a job well done.
