Illegal dumpers be warned
Thanks to the prompt response by two JMPD officers, the dumpers were caught in the act.
JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – SOJO CEO, Nicky Vakaloudis and SOJO office manager, Jeannine du Toit, were on their way to the Thaba Eco Hotel on November 27, when they spotted illegal dumpers offloading their litter onto the side of the road. The duo immediately contacted and reported the incident to the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD).
“As Nicky and I were driving towards the Thaba Eco Hotel we saw a truck dumping and we immediately phoned two JMPD officers. As we drove back towards the office we saw that the JMPD officers had caught the dumpers red-handed,” said Du Toit.
JMPD Superintendent, Wayne Minnaar, said that people that are found illegally dumping by metro officers will be fined according to different categories: Residents dumping from a small vehicle will be fined R500, dumpers using a bakkie will be issued a R1 000 fine and a truck full of rubble will incur a R1 500 fine. Minnaar also added that illegal dumpers who fail to provide a name and an address of residence or business can be arrested by officers.
