Housebreaker sentenced

The suspect had broken into a Kenilworth home with the intent to steal.

BOOYSENS SAPS are proud to announce the successful conviction of a housebreaker who was busted sitting on a couch in Kenilworth.

The female resident of the home woke up as she heard strange noises coming from the other room, only to see the suspect sitting on her couch at 03:00 on Sunday, March 10, 2013.

She informed the police that she and her husband had gone to bed, as normal, that night, but they were surprised to see the man who had broken into their house sitting on their couch. They quickly pressed the panic button and the suspect was later arrested and taken to Booysens SAPS where it was confirmed that the suspect had broken into the house with the intent to steal.

Booysens SAPS spokesperson Lorraine van Emmerik said, “The suspect was charged with housebreaking and theft and the docket was given to D/Sgt Tomas Chikane for investigation. Sgt Chikane obtained all the relevant paperwork and took the docket to the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court. The suspect was found guilty and was sentenced to five years imprisonment, of which three years was suspended.”
