A 20-year-old man was held up by two armed men after he stopped at the traffic lights on Rifle Range Road bridge, over Kliprivier Drive.
On Sunday, April 10, at about 22:40, the victim was driving home from work when he had to stop at a red traffic light.
“A woman appeared at my driver’s side window and asked me for a lift. I said ‘no’ and waved her away. When I turned back to face my windscreen, a man was holding a gun to the window. I took my hands off the steering wheel and then saw another man with a gun at my driver’s side window,” said the victim.
“They both were shouting at me to open my window, which I did. The one man put his gun in my face and asked for my cellphone, which was on charge and lit up. I gave it to him and he asked if I had anything else in the car. My laptop was in the boot of the car, but there was no way I was giving it to them. They both got irate so I took my wallet out of my pocket and gave them the money, a total of R820. I didn’t give them my wallet and they seemed happy enough with the money. They told me not to move while they walked away. The woman walked away with them.”
According to the victim, he then drove away to a nearby garage and made a call to his parents. He said: “Both the men were huge and spoke with a foreign accent. The woman looked to be in her late twenties.”
A case has been opened at Booysens Police Station.
