NATIONAL NEWS: Man (44) injured

It is not clear what type of chemical was contained in the tanker at the time.

A 44-year-old man is in a serious condition after he was caught in an explosion while cleaning a tanker in Chloorkop, east of Johannesburg. on July 12.

Shortly after 13:30, paramedics arrived on the scene, where they found the man being attended to by a local first aid team, who indicated that the injured man had climbed into the tanker to clean it.

Moments later they heard an explosion. He was removed from the tanker by the first aid team and paramedics were called to the scene.

Upon assessment, the paramedics found that he had sustained severe head injuries and extensive burns across his body. An emergency helicopter was called to the scene to airlift him to hospital for further care.

The exact cause of the incident is not yet known.
