Ward 57 members shut down construction
Red Ants were sent to monitor the site but left as the protesters did not want any violence.
WARD 57 members who claimed to represent the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) have shut down the construction of the South Hills Housing project.
The protesters are accusing a construction company of failing to keep to their word by not employing locals in the construction processes. They also claim that many people have attended the training on the site but have not been employed. Buildings are now up to the roof and locals are now surprised that none of them have been employed.
The first protest turned violent as aspiring workers beat those who were not from ward 57, and subsequently many ward 57 residents who worked at the site were mistakenly attacked by protesters who were targeting workers from outside ward 57.
Red Ants were sent to monitor the site but left as the protesters did not want any violence.
Protesters say they will not allow for work to resume until CoJ Mayor, Clr Parks Tau, and MMC for Housing, Daniel Bovu, come and resolve the problems the same way they introduced the project to the community.
