THE Grade Eight and Grade Nine sleepover at Abbotts College, that took place on September 23, was a great success.
The Junior Southies displayed their enthusiasm for fun, and dedication to building relationships with peers who will, most likely, accompany them into their Grade 12 year and beyond. The night started with a lively soccer match, with their own, Simo Maqhasha, shining out as man of the match.
Mr Hlongwane acted as the referee and made them all wonder why he isn’t refereeing in the big leagues. Whilst iDiski prowess was being showcased on the sports field, the creative rhythms of a dance-off were taking place in the quad.
Even though the decision was a difficult one, seeing as the love of dance runs deep in the veins of the Southies, Ms Mbuqe hailed Kamogelo Oliver, who claimed victory as the winner of the dance-off. After the prize-giving, led by Mr van Lavieren, the group enjoyed showing off their music taste and furthering their dance skills while Mr Dürrheim cooked up a storm, braaing the sausage for the boerewors rolls.
The dining part of the evening closed with the time-honoured tradition of marshmallows over the fire – whilst the boys and girls were moving on up to the various classrooms to watch movies, play Xbox and Playstation and getting ready for bed. The following morning saw bleary eyed but bushy-tailed Southies being collected by their parents while the happy and exhausted staff made their way home.
The school thanks Ms Mbuqe, Ms Soden, Mr Hlongwane, Mr Dürrheim, Mr van Lavieren, Ms du Toit, Mrs van Noordwyk, Mrs Moonsamy and most importantly the organiser of the event, Ms Jury.
