Swimming for The Teddy Bear Clinic
Dalene Bishop (donor liasion officer of TTBC) said she is thrilled that they are doing this to help children. “It takes a special kind of person to help others and swimming Lake Malawi is certainly going to be an exciting challenge,” she said.
TWO men from Joburg South, Deon van Niekerk (58) from Mondeor and Duncan Kukard (41) from Oakdene, are attempting to swim Lake Malawi to raise much-needed funds for The Teddy Bear Clinic (TTBC) and Geleentheid Trust.
Dalene Bishop (donor liasion officer of TTBC) said she is thrilled that they are doing this to help children. “It takes a special kind of person to help others and swimming Lake Malawi is certainly going to be an exciting challenge,” she said.
Deon and Duncan are part of the team, Mad Swimmers, and Deon says he aims to swim 15 of the 28km from Makanjila Point to Senga Bay. “I’m going to remember what Dory said in ‘Finding Nemo’, ‘Just keep swimming,” laughed Deon! While Duncan who is attempting to swim the full distance said: “We enjoy pain and suffering by choice for those less privileged – help us to make a difference and just give money.”
“Have you ever thought it would be tough appearing in court? Imagine what a daunting experience that must be if you were a child, an abused one at that. The Teddy Bear Clinic supports such children through the whole process from medicals to their appearance in court and reintegration,” added Deon and Duncan.
Please support Deon and Duncan and The Teddy Bear Clinic by donating money to: Nedbank: Teddy Bear Clinic for Abused Children; account number: 1944183361; branch code: 194 405; branch name: Parktown and as a reference please use Lake Malawi.
