Aim is to eradicate drugs in ward 57

Residents of the South march against drugs following the story about learners who were given drugs by an unknown man.

MEMBERS of the South Hills Methodist Church united with DA ward 57 Clr Faeeza Chame, South Hills and Moffat View residents, to march against drugs – after 25 learners were hospitalised for eating sweets suspected to be laced with drugs; offered to them by an unknown man.

The marched escorted by JMPD vehicles took place in South Hills on Saturday, November 12, as residents wanted to demonstrate to the community of the South, that enough is enough and drugs need to be thrown far away from the community – as they are affecting the lives of school children now.

“We’re very happy that MMC for Social Development, Mpho Paletsa, also joined the march. When you walk in the streets of South Hills, you notice our young boys walking with back packs on their shoulders (and it’s suspected) dealing in drugs. These boys (allegedly) work with a syndicate. Our parents are feeling hopeless, because in most cases their children are stealing from them to support their bad drug habits,” said Clr Chame.

“Residents want to see an increased police and CPF visibility, to strengthen the fight against this scourge. I would encourage the members of the community to please send me a private message or visit the local police station, when seeing any illegal or suspicious activity in the South – and they don’t have to give their names or any identification information. Let’s stand together and make our area a much safer place for all,” added Clr Chame.

Clr Chame can be contacted on 082 518 4375 or faychame@hotmail.com
