Fire engulfs home of nine adults and a baby
Residents of a Kibler Park home ran out of the house in their pyjamas when they realised a fire had started eating through the walls while they were sleeping.
NINE people and a 12-month-old baby lost all their belongings when they were awakened by an inferno in their Paul Road home in Kibler Park on Saturday, around 01:00.
The dwellers said they could not fight the fire because the property does not have a source of water. They always walked to fetch water from surrounding neighbours.
The cause of the fire is not known, and that confuses Themba Ncube, who has been living in the house for 17 years. Themba said that he cannot understand what caused the fire since the house does not have electricity and all the candles were out when everyone went to sleep
“Right now we have spoken to the owner of the house to see if he will fix it or whether he has other plans. He said he is still in Durban and we will talk with him when he returns. For now we just need some help with food, clothes and shoes because things have been tough ever since. Right now we sleep in neighbours’ homes and we could use donations such as ZOZO shacks to just sleep in at night for the meanwhile. We will take anything and any help that people can offer,” said Themba
