Living in filth

Environmental Health Department has been contacted for comment.

A PAIR of streets in La Rochelle – 9th Street and 8th Street – have become a nightmare for the residents who have to live close to two dilapidated blocks of flats, that have been abandoned by their owners.

By-law enforcement officers including the health department, have been procrastinating for years over finding a solution to deal with these buildings. They tend to shift responsibility and in the aftermath, residents are left feeling hopeless.

Ward 57 Clr Faeeza Chame said the Environmental Health Department will have to step in, as it’s becoming a health hazard, with rats as big as cats invading the neighbours’ properties.

The Environmental Health Department has been contacted for comment.
