Stop wasting water
I have seen clean water running down the streets and even seen hose pipes left on whilst caretakers walk away to collect more bins - Clr dos Santos.

It is of great concern to see that there are many townhouse complexes, in particular Winchester Hills and Ridgeway, that are using hosepipes to wash out their Pikitup bins. While I understand that there may be a need to wash the bins due to odours or leaks, there is a greater need not to use municipal tap water indiscriminately when we are suffering from one of the worst droughts in decades.
I have seen clean water running down the streets and even seen hosepipes left on whilst caretakers walk away to collect more bins.
We are currently at Water Restrictions Level 2, which prohibits the use of hosepipes between 06:00 and 18:00. This is an urgent appeal to all townhouse complexes to inform their caretakers as well as all residents not to use hosepipes and to heed the call to reduce water usage. Not only do we need to save water due to restrictions, but there are also penalties for overuse.
Residents are reminded that level-2 water restrictions are still in place and must be adhered to.
Level-2 water restrictions according to section 44 (3) of the Water Services bylaw states that all consumers are forthwith compelled:
- Not to water and irrigate their gardens between 06:00 and 18:00 every day;
- Only use handheld hosepipes or buckets or watering cans outside these hours.
Note that this is an additional requirement:
- Not to fill their swimming pools with municipal water; and
- Not to use hosepipes to wash their cars, paved areas and so forth.
Johannesburg Water urges consumers to remain active partners in reducing the amount of water used in the City of Johannesburg, and to report any form of water leaks, vandalism and theft of water infrastructure to 0800 00 25 87
