HOËRSKOOL President High School held an interschool athletics meeting on Friday, February 10 at their school grounds in Ormonde.

The school welcomed four other schools – Hoërskool Bekker, Hoërskool Westonaria, Hoërskool Fochville and Glenharvie Gekombineerd. The full day of athletics kicked off with a breakfast for staff and educators from the five schools, after which the cheerleaders from each school performed their respective chants.

Athletes from the various age categories competed in: high jump, long jump, shot put, triple jump, discus, javelin, hurdles, 3 000 metres, 1 500 metres, 800 metres, 400 metres, 200 metres, 100 metres and relay.

Hoërskool Fochville was the best performing school, winning the awards for both the best male and the best female athlete of the day.

Hoërskool Westonaria won the trophy for the overall cheerleading, as its mascots and cheerleaders sang the day away.

Each school showed discipline and common courtesy to one another, which created a united atmosphere on the school grounds. And it was not only the learner athletes who enjoyed the competition – the educators also had their own relay.
