Eikenhof WI holds its AGM
The meeting was opened with the lighting of the memorial candle for members who died throughout the past year as well as those who died in years gone by.
EIKENHOF Women’s Institute held its annual general meeting in April, with President Joy Boswell giving feedback on her year in office.
The meeting was opened with the lighting of the memorial candle, remembering members died this past year as well as those who died in previous years.
Evelyn Onderstaal (secretary) opened the AGM and the minutes were accepted by the members.
Pat Leech (treasurer) gave the financial report, which was accepted.
Joy spoke about the year’s activities, which included monthly competitions, fun raffles and various demonstrations.
“Looking back on the past year, we enjoyed a visit from Rosemary Killian (WI Head Office) in May (last year), June we had speaker Theresa John, who spoke on stained-glass windows, and in July we hosted Ron Gill for a fun musical morning.
“August was International Day, where one of our members, Marjorie Lattimer, spoke about her cruise to Alaska. In September, Dr van der Merwe spoke about her time on cruise ships. October was Show Day.
“In November, Brigette Blazer chatted about body stress release. December was our Christmas meeting with breakfast at Golden Falls Spur and afterwards back to the church hall for mince pies and champagne and orange juice.
“In January we focused on how we would encourage new members to join us. In February, Maureen Arnold related her struggle with mental illness. In March we celebrated our 65th birthday, where President of the Federation of the Women’s Institute, Noleen Walker, came to visit.”
She continued: “On a sad note, we lost four members. Our beloved secretary Sue Andrews died suddenly and Maud Pickup passed away after a sudden illness. Norma Fordred has resigned due to ill health and Anne Du Plessis has relocated to George.
“I’d like to thank all members and committee for their support. My committee has been fantastic. Thank you, and a huge thanks to the tea ladies,” added Joy.
