TURFFONTEIN Racecourse hosted its Champions Day on May 6. The Mayor of Johannesburg, Clr Herman Mashaba, and Member of Parliament for Joburg South Manny de Freitas were among the guests at this race day.

“The Mayor and I agree that the Turffontein Racecourse is an important landmark, not just in the South but for the City as well. The Mayor has assured us that Turffontein and the surrounding area will be included in the revitalisation programme,” explained De Freitas.

He added that the racecourse has the potential to become a tourist attraction and a generator of jobs, as has been the experience of racecourses in other parts of the world.

“With the City’s budget imminent, the residents of Johannesburg will start seeing concrete differences and the revitalisation of our areas is part of this,” De Freitas said.
