Six months into 2017: residents recall their New Year’s resolutions

"If you want to make a change, do it immediately, then and there."

WE are officially halfway through 2017. So, via social media platforms, the RECORD set a question free to those willing to answer – “Have you made New Year’s resolutions and kept to them?”

You may be surprised by the comments and get the feeling that much fewer people participate in this tradition than expected.

Kirsten Noome from Johannesburg said with a giggle: “Gosh, I can’t even remember if I made a New Year’s resolution! I think I probably wanted a six pack this year. I’m not completely happy yet, but I’m working on it – I love climbing, which keeps me motivated.”

IT IS AN EVERYDAY THING: Cherise van Wyk from Verwoerdpark, said: “I make resolutions very often, not just around New Year’s time. I want to be good with what I’m doing now, which is modelling, and I want to get better grades. It’s a day-to-day thing for me.”
NO SUCH LUCK: Marius van Wyk, also from Verwoerdpark, said: “Usually I keep my New Year’s resolutions to myself, but I’ll make an exception this time. I wanted to smoke less, but unfortunately that hasn’t happened yet.”
CHANGE IS IMMEDIATE: Diederick Barnard from Elarduspark said: “Nope – I’ve tried New Year’s resolutions before and it doesn’t work for me. If you want to make a change, do it immediately, then and there. There’s no point in waiting for a special date to come around before you make a change.”
