[GRAPHIC PHOTOS]: Hospital blamed for ill-treatment and sudden death of Crown Gardens man
He was discharged from hospital on June 1 and died at home on June 3.
A FAMILY in Crown Gardens is upset about the treatment their father received at Helen Joseph Hospital, recently, and believe this ill-treatment may have contributed to his sudden death.
The family says Floris Visser (52) was admitted to the hospital after a mild heart attack. During his stay, they claim he was neglected and was eventually sent home to die. He couldn’t move, eat, bath or go to the bathroom by himself.

The family photographed Visser’s swollen hands and feet and also documented bedsores and strange lesions on the rest of his body, which they say nobody has offered an explanation for.
Visser was discharged from the hospital on June 1 and died at home on June 3.

Prince Hamnca, head of communications, Gauteng Department of Health, confirmed hospital records show Visser was admitted on May 23 and discharged on June 1.
“The hospital is in the process of scheduling an appointment with the patient’s family where details of the patient’s medical records, treatment as well as his stay in hospital will be discussed in detail. The family will also be given an opportunity to raise their concerns and psycho-social counselling will be offered, if it is required.

“Patients are advised to lodge their complaints in writing to quality assurance managers at public health facilities or call the department’s 24-hour call centre, on 0860 011 000. All concerns will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action will be taken,” explained Prince.
