UPDATE: Fitzpatricks receive help
The tables have turned for the better for a devoted husband who wanted a better home for his blind wife.
THE tables have turned – for the better – for a devoted husband who wanted a better home for his blind wife.
Rosettenville residents, Cyril ‘Billy’ (69) and his blind wife Avril (66) Fitzpatrick have thanked the community for their open hearts.
A month ago, Billy came forward pleading for a better home and living conditions for his beloved spouse, Avril.
The couple had been eating cold food during the previous month because of their broken microwave.
On August 2, the Fitzpatricks told the COURIER that they were well on their way to a better home after a friend came forward and provided a place for them.

Uncertain of the exact details, as the deal was still being finalised, they both said God worked in mysterious ways.
“The place is in Turffontein still,” said Billy, “and it has a kitchen with a stove, bathroom and a bedroom with curtains.”
He said it was an old friend who stepped forward and chose to help them.
He referred to their friend as ‘the Coopers’ because he wanted to keep details out of the paper and because he did not want to put any pressure on them.
His life partner, Avril, said they were grateful to all those who were there for them, including the Church of the South.
“We want to thank Pastor Lynn, Pastor Joe and the entire church for their continuous support.”

The couple said they were looking forward to having a hot, cooked meal. “I would love some mince and some lasagna,” said Billy while Avril added that she would love some frozen meaty food, which they could warm up and eat.
The couple have, since Billy’s plea, received two hot-plate stoves.
They have been living in one-roomed accommodation after they were forced to sell their home in order to be debt free.
They were also forced to sell most of their furniture because they had no space for it.
