Woman stabbed 15 times, family wants justice

The 24-year-old Kigiongo was butchered in front of a friend and her children.

A FAMILY questions if they will ever get justice after their family member was brutally killed when she was stabbed 15 times.

Mother of four, Martina Kigiongo (24), was stabbed by a Ghanaian man who remains in police custody following his court appearance recently.

The man believed to be responsible for the brutal attack is said to be in a mental hospital by order of the court. He is under psychiatric evaluation.

Moffat View Police spokesperson, Cst Mikateko Bila, confirmed he was in the hospital but in police custody.

She said psychiatric evaluations would be conducted in assessing the man’s mental state.

The 52-year-old, who has been in court several times is, according to the police, yet to plead.

He first appeared in court on March 27 followed by court appearances on April 3 and July 12, with the next court date on August 30.

Bila said the man would have his day in court once he was assessed psychologically.

Kigiongo’s brother-in-law, Cherry Amij Tshibamba, who confirmed the next court date said he hoped and prayed for justice.

The 24-year-old Kigiongo was butchered in front of a friend and her children.

The altercation was said to have been over a money issue.

The culprit alleged Kigiongo stole R15 000 from his property yet police could only confirm R10 000 missing.

Kigiongo was struck with a knife in the back while she was with a friend drinking tea. She was carrying one of her friend’s children at the time. The child was dropped as Kigiongo plummeted to the ground trying to flee from the culprit’s knife.

According to a witness, who wishes not to be named, the 52-year-old kept thrusting the knife in her back. “She said Kigiongo pushed him away with her hand, fleeing.”

Kigiongo is said to have taken most of the stabbing in her back. She collapsed on top of her friend and when she turned to face the culprit, she was stabbed in the neck.

Police later discovered she was also struck in the face.

She died shortly after in hospital.

Husband Rocky Mukendi said he had many questions regarding the murder but that all he was focusing on now were his children who needed support. He added that he was struggling financially and needed help.
