Investing in green skills development
Roshan Dulabh is one of only a few students selected to travel to India to develop skills in slum rehabilitation so it can be applied to projects here in South Africa.
AN initiative by the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Civil Engineering Student Society saw the Gandhi Walk Committee, Let’s Do It Together 4 Education, JYM and Lil’Masters all team up to announce their commitment and an investment in green skills development at the Education Expo which took place at the Lenasia Stadium on August 5.
UJ has already successfully completed four academic excursions over the past four years to Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa as part of the BRICS countries’ learning experience and this year the UJ Department of Civil Engineering Science jointly with its Civil Student Society will see select students travel to India in September 2017 to complete the academic tour.
According to UJ, the objective is to have students establish global networks and to learn from world-leading construction projects to find common solutions which affect us in BRICS.
Roshan Dulabh is one of only a few students selected to travel to India to develop skills in slum rehabilitation so it can be applied to projects here in South Africa. This comes on the back of his academic visits to all South Africa’s renewable energy resources in 2016.
“Although this academic excursion is largely sponsored by UJ and the construction industry, students still require financial aid and ongoing skills nurturing.” said Neeresh Badal from NPO/PBO Let’s Do It Together 4 Education.
“In a joint initiative and from donations received, Roshan Dulabh will gain an opportunity in acquiring and developing practical ‘green’ skills from local and abroad. With informal settlements surrounding Lenasia and considered efforts for environmental sustainability, by empowering and developing this young lad in such green skills, he can add much value to our community,” said Gandhi Walk Committee Chairman, Amit Parbhucharan.
To further enhance and nurture his skills, Gandhi Walk Committee’s Amit Parbhucharan excitingly announced at the Education Expo that Roshan Dulabh has been selected to establish and spearhead the new “green initiative project” for the upcoming Gandhi Walk, where Joburgers will see a first-hand practical implementation of this green-empowerment.
Roshan Dulabh expresses much gratitude to Gandhi Walk Committee, Let’s Do It Together 4 Education, JYM and Lil’Masters for their valued support and belief in green-empowerment and to UJ for selecting him.
