De Villiers Street construction woes set to continue
Residents want to know when will this project end.
THE inconvenience caused by the multi-million rand development of a linear park along a 1.2km stretch of De Villiers Street in Turffontein is not about to end.
The COURIER has been inundated with calls from concerned residents regarding this project. They want to know when will this project end. It is in its third year now.

Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) development manager Shaakira Chohan said, “Currently the works on site have slowed down due to financial strains that the appointed contractor is currently experiencing. This became apparent and had an impact on the works as of January 2018.

“The JDA is currently assessing the full extent of the financial challenges that Nyoni Projects is experiencing and the relevant, most viable solutions available to us in line with the contract,” Chohan said.
“We will be finalising a way forward within the next few weeks. In the interim, the contractor is expected to still continue with the works (with a close monitoring from the team) and to maintain the construction site.”
