The two sides of a story

“I think they want to tarnish my name, but God is there,” says Thulani Mathe.

SANDRA Labuschagne from Glenesk is livid because Thulani Mathe, a builder, didn’t complete the job he was supposed to do.

According to Sandra, she used the services of Thulani who was referred to her by her sister, Ester.

“My sister recommended him because he did a sterling job at her place. We started the renovations in July last year. The renovations were divided into phases where he was supposed to do, among other things, tiling, plastering and partitioning,” said Sandra.

Thulani started working with his guys but according to Sandra, Thulani had to go to Zimbabwe as there was bereavement in mid-October.

“We struggled to get hold of him after that as he had not finished the job. Messages were left on his phone and he would promise to come and finish the job but he didn’t. This guy was paid in full and I don’t understand why he hasn’t come to finish what he started. The bathroom needs plastering and tiling, doorways and windows are a mess. My house is incomplete because of him,” explained Sandra.

On the other hand, Thulani has a different story. He said he doesn’t mind to finish the job, only if Sandra can pay him because there was a lot more work to be done on her house than anticipated.

“Firstly, I don’t understand why they went to the COURIER, Ester knows where I live and it is not far from her. Secondly, I lost a lot on that place. There are things that when I can tell you, you will see why I never went back to that house.

“I think they want to tarnish my name, but God is there. They used me, I have never been used like this before. While we were working there I told Sandra that the money they paid me was not enough as there was a lot of work to be done. I even left my tools there because I was under the impression that they will consider my offer.

“On my pay there was money deducted because they wanted to open their company with me involved. Although I also want to grow my company, I didn’t understand why there were four other people in this new company they wanted to open. However, I don’t mind going back and finish what I started, as long as I will be paid satisfactory,” noted Thulani.
