Moffat View residents fed up with this mess

The residents, who wanted to remain anonymous, said people dump their rubbish in the bush and the smell affects the old people who live near the bush.

MOFFAT View residents have had enough of the area becoming totally overgrown opposite their homes and the makeshift bridge that allows thugs from the other section to cross over the little stream to come and commit crime in Moffat View.

The residents, who wanted to remain anonymous, said people dump their rubbish in the bush and the smell affects the old people who live near the bush. What has also become a worry is that rats and snakes breed there because of this.

“Ever since the bridge was mounted, crime has escalated because this bridge allows the thugs from the other side to cross over to this side. The councillor must make a plan to remove all the trees, logs and trash,” said a resident.

OVERGROWN: Residents feel that the councillor should intervene to cut the grass and clean up the mess.

The water under the bridge is static. When one of the sewerage pipes bursts, the waste goes right down to the log in the bridge and the smell becomes unbearable.

“A few blocks away from us, there is an informal settlement. The property used to belong to a security company and now the people who stay there have no proper sanitation. What we are scared of is this: If one of the drains bursts again, what are we going to do? Not so long ago, someone died and all his belongings were thrown here in the bush and we, the residents on the opposite side of the stream, have to suffer. We have called the Department of Health and Pikitup, but they didn’t come; you can see that this is a health hazard,” said the resident.

Lastly, the residents said they need mayor Mashaba to come and have a look and give them an idea about who can they get to start cleaning and removing the bridge over the stream so that nobody can cross it anymore.

“We are not saying it’s him, nor are we shifting the blame to him. We are just asking for his help so that some sort of action can take place. We have told our local councillor about our problem as residents but it seems she doesn’t care,” the resident told the COURIER.

THUGS ESCAPE ROUTE: The log that the thugs use to cross the stream after they have committed their crimes.

The COURIER is awaiting comment from the councillor.
