Volunteers needed for victim empowerment centre at Moffat View SAPS
An effective community-based victim support programme needs a strong network of volunteers.

FOLLOWING the establishment of the Victim Empowerment Centre (VEC) at Moffat View SAPS, the station hereby request volunteers to come forward and apply for positions at the VEC.
An effective community-based victim support programme needs a strong network of volunteers. Volunteers are committed members of the community who wants to help the victims of crime or abuse.
Research and experience have shown it will be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to sustain VECs without a network of volunteers.
Moreover, it is envisaged that by using a victim-centred approach, secondary victimisation will be reduced. This approach will also be conducive to encouraging better co-operation of victims with regards to investigations and giving evidence in court, thus improving service delivery.
Volunteers can perform the following duties:
• Giving emotional support.
• Giving practical support.
• Advocacy.
• Acting as a liaison between the victims and the agencies in the criminal justice system.
• Doing administrative work.
• Networking with various persons and institutions.
• Assisting in approved fund-raising projects (within the ambit of the SAPS regulations for fund-raising).
• Becoming involved with education and awareness campaigns.
• Acting as ambassadors for victims’ rights.
