Kind-hearted Southerners help kidnapped foreigner

The suspects held him up at gun point and forced him into one of the vehicles.

TWO residents of the South, Jason Naicker (owner of JJ’s Automotive Supplies in Turffontein) and Kwanda Nxasana (Comaro CHRONICLE sales representative), helped a Taiwanese man, Shang Yu, who was badly injured on May 24.

They were flagged down by Yu on Kliprivier Drive, coming from Brackendowns, heading towards Mall of the South.

“The time was around 10.40pm. We stopped to see if we could assist. The man, who seemed to be in his 40s, was badly injured. He explained he had been abducted from Cyrildene by six males and three females, driving a black VW Polo, with police sirens, and a white Toyota, he couldn’t identify the model. He was stopped while walking back from a restaurant, where he had just eaten lunch. He arrived in the country about a week ago, visiting a family member for two weeks,” explained Nxasana. He further told Nxasana and his friend the suspects held him up at gunpoint and forced him into one of the vehicles.

“He told us they then took him to an undisclosed location where they beat him and demanded money. They had covered his head with a plastic, so he couldn’t see where he was or where he was going. They took his passport and cellphone. He had little money on him; change from the meal he had eaten. He is not sure of the amount,” said Kwanda.

“Just a few minutes before we found him, he was released into the veld near Kliprivier Drive. We then drove to Booysens Police Station from there with him in the car just after 11pm. The police took his statement and called an ambulance. We left the gentleman at the station before heading home,” explained Kwanda.

Booysens police communications officer Captain Lorraine van Emmerik confirmed the gentlemen brought an injured man into the police station that night.

“I was at the station when these gentlemen came to the station. Unfortunately, it is not a Booysens case, it is a Cyrildene case as he was kidnapped there. We contacted the ambulance and took him to South Rand Hospital. Our members went to Cyrildene to try and find his family. The two gentlemen that picked him up were very helpful. I must compliment them on their attitude. They really assisted the man, brought him to the police station and they even bought him something to eat and water.

“The paramedics came very quickly because the man was badly assaulted. He was kidnapped in Cyrildene and dropped off in Brackendowns, as soon as he is okay he will open a case and it will be investigated in Cyrildene which falls under the Cleveland Police Station,” explained van Emmerik.
